Medical Exam

Each day brings us closer to home. It really is hard to believe we only have three days left here in China. It has given me such a boost in my spirit to have the rest of our group from Bethany here at last. There are six families all together, each with a beautiful little child they have waited for for so long, and each with a very distinct personality. Yesterday was our first full day together as a group, and unfortunately our first outing was to the Medical Exam office. Whew, there was a lot of crying going on in there! I am fairly certain they do not pay the doctors enough. It was not the most thourough of exams to say the least, but it was one more hoop we needed to jump through to get Sage home. There were three stations. First, height and weight; second, general check up (I don't really know what he was doing or looking for, he just seemed to poke her a bit and then say, "good"); third, ENT. The Ear, Nose and Throat doctor kept looking at Sage's eye with concern, covering her good eye to see if she could see out of her bad one (uh, no!) and then mumbling to herself in Chinese. It was weird. It's like she wasn't sure we had noticed her eye at all or if we knew she couldn't see out of it. She even got another doctor and she looked at Sage's eye again. We had no idea what they were saying. Finally our guide came over and translated. Basically the doctor said she thinks she'll need a new eye. We've gotten a lot of opinions from people about her eye, and we're just at the point that we almost tune it out. We'll see a specialist when we get home and go from there. We don't know what she'll need, but we do know we will take care of her no matter what. We trust God's got her in His hands, and that's all we can ask for.
